Turi, a town that tells its story all year round
In Turi, time never flows in the same way. It changes with the seasons, with the aromas drifting from home kitchens, with the lights that illuminate the Old Town, and with the voices that once again fill the squares. Here, traditions are not memories to be preserved, but living gestures renewed over time — recurring appointments and moments when the community comes together.
Throughout the year, Turi is enlivened by food festivals, folk celebrations, wine and gastronomy events, cultural initiatives and religious observances that reflect the identity of the area and its way of sharing life. Each event is different, yet they all share the same spirit: turning the town into a lived-in, open and shared space.
Spring marks a time of renewal, with initiatives linked to local produce, the first outdoor events and cultural routes that invite visitors to rediscover the historic centre with fresh eyes. It is the prelude to the most eagerly awaited period — the season that makes Turi recognisable far beyond its local boundaries.
With the arrival of summer, the town comes alive with evening events, music, performances, tastings and cultural happenings that bring together residents and visitors alike. Streets become places of encounter, courtyards open up, and the town reveals itself without filters.
Among the most representative events is the Ferrovia Cherry Festival, a symbol of the area’s agricultural and productive identity. More than just a festival, it is a collective celebration that brings together tradition, work, memory and local pride, turning Turi into a point of reference for those wishing to discover one of Puglia’s most distinctive excellences.
Alongside events dedicated to taste and conviviality, Turi experiences with deep participation the feast of its patron saint, Saint Oronzo, a central moment of the year with strong symbolic value. Processions, religious rites, decorative lights and popular festivities transform the town into a space of profound sharing, where faith, memory and a sense of belonging intertwine and are renewed from generation to generation.
Autumn brings a different, more intimate atmosphere, yet no less intense. It is the season of wine, bold flavours and squares once again filled with glasses, aromas and music. This is the setting for Bacco per Bacco, the event that celebrates conviviality and the pleasure of being together, transforming the historic centre into a shared, living wine and food route.
In early September, the summer season draws to a close with the Festa del Borgo Antico e delle Percoche, an event dedicated to a simple yet deeply symbolic fruit. It recalls ancient gestures, traditional recipes and spontaneous conviviality, telling the story of the profound bond between Turi and its land, between agricultural production and popular culture.
Alongside its most deeply rooted traditions, Turi is also a place of contemporary cultural production. Operatic performances and artistic projects curated by Chi è di Scena bring a refined and cultured language into the town, engaging in dialogue with historic settings and offering emotional, immersive experiences that broaden both the cultural offer and its audience. The Festival del Bel Canto is an event of outstanding quality, to be experienced with all the emotion it inspires.
In addition to these well-known events, the calendar is dotted with historical commemorations, cultural initiatives, workshops, markets and community gatherings that naturally mark the rhythm of the year. Numerous activities are hosted at the Municipal Auditorium, a recently built venue designed to accommodate events in a comfortable and well-appointed setting.
It is this continuity that makes Turi an authentic town: not a stage that comes to life only on special occasions, but a place that lives, tells its story and renews itself day by day. A town where every season has something to offer, and every event is an invitation to feel part of its story.
