PERCOCA
PERCOCA DI TURI, A SUMMER FRUIT
Known locally as “precuèche de Tùre” or “precuèche uardabbòsche”, this is a cultivar of percoca originating from Turi. The tree is characterised by good productivity and adapts well to warm climates and sunny areas, as well as to less favourable conditions. The Turi percoca tree is self-fertile, meaning it can bear fruit without the need for other varieties for pollination.
The fruit is round and medium-sized, with an intense yellow skin tinged with red hues and covered with a fine down, giving it an inviting and appealing appearance. Its flesh is firm and compact, yet juicy and sweet—qualities that make it ideal for eating fresh, straight after harvesting, as well as for producing juices, preserving in syrup, or making desserts.
Another distinctive use is in sangria made with Primitivo red wine—an authentic delicacy. To extend the production season, growers have long introduced other highly appreciated percoca cultivars; however, the local variety remains the most sought-after.
