PERCOCA DI TURI, A SUMMER FRUIT
Known as precuèche de Tùre or precuèche uardabbòsche, it is a peach cultivar native to Turi. The tree is notable for its good productivity, adapting well to hot climates and sunny areas, as well as to less favorable conditions. The Percoco di Turi tree is self-fertile, meaning it can produce fruit without the need for other varieties for pollination.
The fruit is medium-sized and round, with bright yellow skin tinged with red and covered by a fine fuzz, giving it an attractive and appealing appearance. Its flesh is firm and compact, yet juicy and sweet, making it ideal to eat fresh just after harvesting, or to use in juice production, syruping, or in desserts. Another traditional use is in sangria made with Primitivo red wine—a true delicacy.
The Percoco di Turi tree’s self-fertility allows it to bear fruit independently, without requiring pollination from other varieties.
