PRIMITIVO DI GIOIA DEL COLLE DOC
In the territory of Turi, viticulture and wine culture—thanks to the favorable climate and the unique nature of the soil—boast a millennia-old tradition. This is evidenced by significant archaeological finds of Attic kraters decorated with figures and scenes from Greek mythology, used for wine pouring at Bacchic celebrations of the time, attesting to the cult of wine in Peucetian Turi of the 5th century B.C.
This long-standing vocation continued into the 19th century, when the “Primaticcio di Turi,” produced by Mr. Cozzolongo, was presented at the 1867 Universal Exposition in Paris and at the 1873 exhibition in Vienna, establishing its international fame.
The wine is characterized by an intense ruby-red color, tending toward violet, and, with aging, orange hues. Its flavor is soft, warm, enveloping, full-bodied, harmonious, and fruity, with notes of cherry, sour cherry, and plum, becoming velvety as it matures. On the nose, it expresses forest fruit aromas with hints of cherry, sour cherry, and plum, giving it a light yet distinctive fragrance.
Today, Turi’s leading wineries belong to the Consorzio Gioia del Colle DOC, producing value for their community and achieving recognition and awards at Vinitaly.
