TURI PRESENTS ITSELF AT BIT, A RARE GEM OF BEAUTY AND CHARM

Mayor De Tomaso lights up the audience and wins over hearts.

Turi sets its sights on quality tourism, building on the synergy between culture and food and wine. Mayor Giuseppe De Tomaso at the BIT in Milan.

Revitalisation of the historic centre, promotion of the Ferrovia cherry, the Faldacchea, the Tronere and all other local delicacies (Primitivo wine being one of the town’s prides), refined festivals (in addition to the Cherry Festival, also the Festival of Turi’s Delicacies and Bacco per Bacco).

Cultural goals: Turi will take part in the Lector in Fabula programme, organised by the Di Vagno Foundation. It will enhance the Municipal Auditorium in Via Montanelli with high-level events. A central milestone remains the Gramsci Project, aimed at redeveloping the area surrounding the prison and creating a museum dedicated to the thinker imprisoned in Turi by fascism — a thinker who, in one of his prison notebooks, had reflected precisely on the need to bring tourism closer to small towns. The recognition of Turi as a capital of culture (in the name of Gramsci) remains the ultimate goal of this initiative.

The revival of the historic centre lies at the heart of TuriBorgoAntico, a newly launched project in the area, which aspires to give due value to one of the most evocative villages in Puglia, with the ambition of transforming it into the “Village of Happiness.”

To lead Turi towards ever greater tourism success, it is crucial to work in synergy with neighbouring towns. With Sammichele di Bari there is a profound unity of purpose, as emerged in the joint conference between myself and Mayor Lorenzo Netti. We will organise initiatives together.

Full steam ahead, then, for a Turi that is ever more attractive and captivating.
